Match Comments:
Newcastle
caretaker-manager Chris Hughton:
"The preparation with what we have got has been good.
I can't fault the attitude and the
professionalism of the players. That I can't fault.
We had a starting line-up of 11 players that was good enough in my mind
to certainly win the game today, but it wasn't to be."

Hull boss Phil Brown:
"We came here to do a job and we have done it.
It is a great result and a fantastic day
for the club. It is great to have our first win away from home.
We had an attitude and mentality that we needed to score first. It was
about a team performance and I thought it was outstanding."

Match Report: |
|
| |
A woeful Newcastle United lost 1-2
to newly promoted Hull City, the same team that were thrashed 0-5 at
home to the mighty Wigan Athletic in their last Premier League
encounter.
The
first paragraph of the BBC Sport match report perfectly sums up the
emotional day on Tyneside.
"Hull deservedly defeated
Newcastle on an afternoon of passionate protest from Magpies supporters
still reeling after the departure of manager Kevin Keegan."
Fingers can be pointed to poor refereeing decisions, missed scoring
opportunities, poor individual performance etc, but the bottom line is
Newcastle United were not good enough to get a single point out of the
game.
This result and performance were hardly that unexpected after what has
been the most turbulent 10 days in the clubs recent history.
Events off the field in the past have overshadowed what has happened on
it, but these last 10 days has seen an unprecedented level of emotion
and anger being directed towards the current owner and board,
The rift between fans and board it seems is now so deep, that it would
appear to be irreparable.
Watch snippets of the Toon fans protest march before the game
In my opinion these protests rightly overshadowed the 3 points on offer
today, this level of anger and feeling had to be expressed to let Mike
Ashley know he is not wanted. We have been walked over and used
once too many times, the trust has gone at board level, Mike Ashley may
own the football club, but without the fans he has nothing.
In its present form Newcastle United appears to be spirally out of
control, mutiny by the fans, and awful performances on the pitch.
These two combined are disastrous for a football club, so unless
something dramatic happens soon, the unthinkable could happen next May.
