Post Match Comments:
Newcastle manager Alan Shearer said:
"We are bitterly disappointed at the disallowed goal. I have seen it and I can't see anything that's wrong with it. Probably what has happened is the goal on Monday night from Steven Taylor has been highlighted that much this week that one or two people have thought, 'We might try to clamp down on that this weekend'.

"You are allowed to put someone in front of the goalkeeper - I am not aware that you are meant to get out of the way of him. I thought their player was blocking him more than Kevin Nolan was, so I am disappointed with that.

"I thought he (Howard Webb) got the big decision wrong today. When he looks at it, he might think that as well. After the sending off we gave it a right good go. My emotions were up and down and I was not enjoying it for the last half hour. We threw everything at them.

"It's out of our hands - we have got to better Hull next weekend. Whatever they do, we have got to better them. But it ain't over. I'm sure there are going to be twists and turns next Sunday afternoon. But that's football, isn't it?

From the highs on Monday evening and this week, we have been brought back down to earth again. But we were playing against a very good Fulham side who are well organised."

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson commented:
"We came here to some extent as sacrificial lambs. It was a great win here. I feel sorry for Newcastle - they deserved better, we rode our luck on several occasions We are thankful for a very good performances from our back four and goalkeeper.

"But of course, your back four and goalkeeper are also part of your team and if you are going to have a good team, you are going to need a good back four and goalkeeper.

"Fortunately, that's what we have got and that's what we showed on Saturday.

"But Newcastle's performances against Middlesbrough and against us must give them hope that they are going to win their final game and possibly still retain the Premier League status."

Former Magpie Aaron Hughes added:

"It’s very sad to see what’s happened and where Newcastle are in the table. I’m happy to have won the game, but I’m really sorry that things have turned out as they have.

"I’ve still got a strong connection and affinity with Newcastle. They’re very close to my heart. I’ve been away for four years, but when the guys who are still here started chatting, it felt like I only left last week.

"I could tell how down, disappointed and concerned they are. It’s people like that you feel for. I can’t imagine the club in the Championship, the size of the stadium, those amazing fans.

"Everyone can see there’s been no stability and it’s not always about what’s happening on the pitch. It’s just a huge club that’s embedded in the city and dominates it. Alan Shearer understands that. If Newcastle can keep themselves in the league and look to rebuild in the summer, getting Alan on board permanently would be a really good first step."

BBC Sport Player Rater man of the match: Fulham's Mark Schwarzer 8.00 (on 90 minutes)

  Match Report:

Newcastle United are starring down the barrel of relegation after a 0-1 home defeat to Fulham on Saturday.

A 41st minute goal by Fulham's
Diomansy Kamara was enough to separate the sides.

Following the euphoria of the vital victory against Middlesbrough earlier in the week, Newcastle were unable to back that up with another positive result against Fulham.

Newcastle did have the ball in the back of the net during the second half, but referee Howard Webb controversially disallowed Mark Viduka's header because he rules Kevin Nolan impeded Fulham goalkeeper Mark
Schwarzer.

A devastating day for Newcastle United with their fate no longer in their own hands.

Draws for Hull City away to Bolton and Middlesbrough at home to Villa, and a defeat for sunderland away to Portsmouth means that along with West Bromwich Albion any two of four teams can now be relegated on the final day of the season.
16 sunderland 37 -19 36
17 Hull City 37 -24 35
18 Newcastle United 37 -18 34
19 Middlesbrough 37 -28 32
20 West Bromwich Albion 37 -31 31
