  Pre-game comments:
  Newcastle manager Alan Shearer said:
"The lads have got a spring back in their step. Morale is good and there's been a good atmosphere all because of that point.

It would've been a low week had we got nothing. But we did very well to come back and after our second-half performance we deserved at least a point.

The players were pleased with themselves and we were pleased with how they responded. There's been a buzz around training this week and I hope it continues into the match.

Sometimes you go to grounds and that ground tends to be a lucky one.  And the lads can definitely take heart from their previous wins.

They were two magnificent victories and the one last season went a long way to helping the relegation fight. Hopefully we can do the same again and come away with maximum points and I'd love to be the latest manager to do so.

Shearer on Mark Viduka:
"Mark is in the squad and will travel with us. He's been in full training this week and it will be a boost to have him back."

Shearer on the injury doubt of Peter Lovenkrands, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini:
"Both Steven and Peter will return to full training on Friday. We will monitor their fitness and we're hopeful.

Fabricio picked up a knock in training. But we haven't ruled him out of Spurs and we'll monitor his situation."

Match Report

Match Preview:

Newcastle United travel down to London to take on Tottenham Hotspur for their second away game in two weeks in the Premier League.

With six games remaining the Magpies are sitting in 18th place on 30 points, level on points with Middlesbrough in 19th place, and 2 points behind sunderland in 17th place.

Both Northeast rivals have home games against Fulham and Hull City respectively on Saturday, meaning Newcastle could find themselves even further adrift come kick off on Sunday.

The big news for Newcastle manager Alan Shearer is that he is able to welcome Australian striker Mark Viduka back into the squad following a long-standing Achilles injury.

As well as Viduka, Shearer also rates the chances of Peter Lovenkrands and Steven Taylor returning but Obafemi Martins is to have a scan on his groin problem, while Fabricio Coloccini has picked up an injury in training meaning he is a doubt along with Jose Enrique.

Xisco, Joey Barton and Ignacio Gonzalez remain sidelined.

For Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas is a major doubt to face his former club with a hamstring injury, however, Wilson Palacios is back from suspension to bolster the Spurs midfield.

Newcastle are going for their third successive away victory against Tottenham in the Premier League, and this has prompted talk among the Toon ranks of a ‘lucky ground’, but there is nothing lucky about Newcastle these days!

If you look at both teams records, Spurs have won five of seven league games, only losing one in eight, and are looking for their fourth successive victory at White Hart Lane, whilst Newcastle have only won one game in fourteen, therefore common sense says there can only be one winner.

As we are now down to only six games to go, Newcastle needs to find something from somewhere.

The spirit they showed in the final 30 minutes against Stoke City last week is something we can cling onto.

Surely, Shearer will see sense and Andy Carroll will start ahead of Shola Ameobi? And if so, playing a 4-4-2 with two wingers (Jonas and Duff) would seem the most sensible option, as quality crosses for Carroll to get on the end of will be at a premium.

We have been in this position a few times before, and like Paul Goddard in 1987 or David Kelly in 1992, someone in this Newcastle team has a chance to save the club from relegation, so who will step up this time?

One thing is certain though, the Toon Army will step up. Yet another sold out away end will give 110% backing to the players, once again proving that the light of this football club will never go out…
