  Kevin Keegan's pre-game comments:
"Everton have good players who have great spirit and in David Moyes a manager who's galvanised them. They've had a fantastic season and you have to take your hats off to them but we have to test ourselves against them and put in a performance. Our travelling army can then come back to Newcastle and say we've had a really good shot at it and not talk about an end-of-season stroll in the sun."

Goalkeeper Steve Harper had this to say about the last game:
"It's a big game for Everton because they only need a point for UEFA Cup football. We're going there knowing that we are safe but also knowing that it would be fantastic to finish with a win going into the summer.

There'll be thousands of Geordies there and we'll be giving it our all so that hopefully we can send them home happy ahead of next season. We showed against Chelsea how much improvement there has been under Kevin, and if we can find a performance like the first-half in that game then we'll have a good chance of getting a result."

My thoughts:

Newcastle go into the last game of the season with a trip to Liverpool.  The Merseyside's have a lot more to play for needing a point, or for Aston Villa to fail to win at West Ham, to finish fifth and clinch that much coveted UEFA Cup spot.

The Newcastle players will be hoping to send the Toon Army away for the summer with a smile on their faces. A victory would see them complete the double over Everton for the fourth time in the Premiership, and the first since the 9-3 aggregate success in 2001-02.

The 0-2 home defeat to Chelsea last Monday, ended Newcastle's seven-match unbeaten sequence meaning they are still looking for their 1,000th post-war league win. However, Newcastle have won the last fixture of the league campaign just once in six seasons, that being 1-0 at home to Chelsea on 7 May 2006.

At least a draw would see Newcastle beat last season's total of 43 points, and would mean they would receive a payment of £6.48 million for finishing 12th.

Sadly this game isn't live on Foxsports because their are five very important games left to decide the top and bottom of the table.

But regardless of the score it will be nice to put this season to bed, recharge the batteries for two months before we do it all again in August. As the last few days have confirmed, it is never dull at St James' Park, and I'm guessing next season will be no different.

PS. Thank you to everyone who has read the match previews this season, if it wasn't for all of you this wouldn't be possible.

  Did you know?
-
Everton have picked up 13 points out of the last possible 15 in home Premier League matches against the Magpies, and have lost only four of the last 33 home league games against Newcastle at Goodison Park.
