Kevin Keegan's
pre-game comments: |
| |
"It is a chance for us to gauge how far
we've come against a top side It's a great game for us because when you
play one of the big four and they're trying to win it adds spice.
What more can you play for in football than your pride? It's everything
- pride in the shirt, pride in the performance.
We want to finish our last game of the season, send our fans happy in
our stadium thinking and dreaming about a better season next year.
There's plenty to play for."
About Mark
Viduka:
"If he wants to play the last game and he is fit enough to do so,
then he will have that choice.
But it is an injection and he can go away then and by the time he comes
back to us, he should be then free of any pain there and ready for
pre-season.
We are just looking ahead, but if Mark came and said, 'Look, I would
like to play at Everton for x, y, z reason', then it will be after
Everton.
But I am going to give him the option to miss it because that week may
just make a difference to him in the seven or eight weeks before he
comes back." |

My thoughts: |
| |
The title race comes
to St James' Park for the first time in 12 years, with Chelsea needing a
win to go into the final weekend of the season with still a chance of
regaining the title off Manchester United.
Newcastle are current seven games unbeaten, which includes winning the
last 3 homes game without conceding a goal, and they hold a five-match
unbeaten home league run over Chelsea of three wins and two draws, so
the Londoners may not necessary get things their own way.
Aussie bookmakers don't seem to give Newcastle much chance at all with
IAS Bet (see above) having the Magpies at $6 for the win.
If Newcastle are to get anything out of the game then all departments of
their game will need to fire.
The successful three pronged striker force which has been a revelation,
have Michael Owen looking to score in his 4th successive home game and
they will need to continue to score the goals. You'd think we'd need two
goals minimum to get a result.
The midfield battle will be crucial. Nicky Butt and Joey Barton will
need to be at their best against
Ballack, Essien, Lampard and co. If Chelsea do dominate the midfield,
then our 3 man midfield will have a long hard day.
Can we stop Didier Drogba?
Abdoulaye Faye would be the obviously
choice to mark the big Ivory Coast international. He has proved he is a
big touch, no nonsense centre half this season. But if he misses out
again, you would fear the worst with Drogba up against Steven Taylor and
David Edgar.
Keegan has said he will send out a team to take it to Chelsea and give
it a go. One thing is for certain they will backed 100% from the home
fans, so lets hope we spoil the cockney's long weekend. |

Did you know?
-
Chelsea are on the longest unbeaten run away from
home of any club in Premier League, of nine matches; won seven and drawn
two on their travels since the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates
Stadium on 16 December. The next defeat will be their 100th loss on the
road in the Premier League. |
