Kevin Keegan's
pre-game comments: |
| |
"It's a big game. They have just had a
setback at Fulham as they are thinking top six this season. We're not in
the FA Cup so we'll be going into a little bit of a break after this
game and you never want to go into a break with a bad result.
Villa are a team in form despite the setback at Fulham. They are totally
committed under Martin O'Neill so we know what to expect and they will
come at us. They should have Ashley Young back and he is an influential
player and we also know they are good from set-pieces."
On Team news:
"Jose Enrique is OK now as well as Mark Viduka. Jose's had a bit of a
calf strain but he'll be fine for Saturday. Martins just come back from
Africa where he has turned his ankle so he'll not be coming with us to
Aston Villa,"
On Michael Owen:
"Michael has been working hard for us to make things happen and we know
we can provide more for him. The service will get better, but Michael
can score goals out of nothing." |

My thoughts: |
| |
Kevin Keegan is still seeking a first win
since returning to Newcastle as manager and has a bigger squad available
than in previous matches.
The return of Habib Beye and Abdoulaye Faye can only enhance our team
but its disappointing that Obafemi Martins is injured. It will be
interesting to see how Keegan uses Martins this season.
With our excellent record against Aston Villa you have to feel we have
some sort of chance down in England's second city. The confidence is
slightly starting to improve on the pitch and an away game could see
even less pressure on Keegan's men, meaning they will could go out and
express themselves.
Hopefully Michel Owen can prove to us what a good predator he has been
by going on a run of goal scoring till the end of the season. He does
need to start repaying the fans and the club. He now has a manager who
will play a lot more attacking, meaning he should get a lot more of the
chances he thrives on.
Big Dukes is another player who could do with staying fit and start
proving to us what a valuable asset he can be in a Black & White shirt.
All the players know Keegan will be looking to rebuild in the summer so
there should be plenty to play for this season still.
I very rarely do a prediction but for once I will, so here goes... 1-2
to Newcastle with Owen and Viduka on the score sheet for us. |
