  Martins 2nd goal celebration
  Pieman's Leazes View

Match of the day must have had no problems squeezing the highlights of the first half into 45 seconds.,  It was a fairly dreary 45 mins.  The only bits of any note were Dyre's shot being save by the legs of their keeper, Given tipping a 30 yarder by Henderson over the bar and then, from the resulting corner, Given misjudging the bounce and having to back peddle to catch the ball.  The rest of the half was forgetable, with Watford trying to head the ball anywhere coz every time they used their feet the ball went out.

The second half started with a brilliant goal.  It was nearly an identical goal that was scored by Super Sib during the Reading game, except the pass was by Milner and the scorer was Martins, who was wearing his super springy shoes this match.  The Toon seemed to go to sleep, except for Babayaro who was a kip all match.  Babayaro was completely wrong footed by Tommy Smith, the resulting cross went out for a corner.  From that Watford scored their only goal of the game, done by sticking Bouazza in front of Given and flicking the ball past him to score.   Emre hobbled just before 70 mins, it must be the in thing for opposition players to kick him up a height, to be replaced by Duff.  After that it was an end to end battle with the Toon always looking the most dangerous of the two sides.  With 5 mins to go Duff pass the ball into the box along the deck to an unmarked Martins, who seemed to take an age to control the ball (and I thought he'd fubared it) and smash home in his second of the match. There was just enuff time for Watford to have one more corner, which came to nowt, and that was it.  Another stress full game of footy where the Toon made hard work of it.  Let's hope they play better against Spurs and Manure.
