Newcastle caretaker
boss Nigel Pearson on Michael Owen's injury:
"I saw him in the medical room after the game. He was chatting, and
there is no problem at all. He has mild concussion, but it is nothing
too serious and he is fine. He is in fantastic nick, and I have no
qualms about him at all. He will have a headache tonight, but he will be
fine." |

Match Report: |
|
| |

Young stars Steven Taylor and Andy
Carroll jump to win the ball. |
We ended the season
with a 1-1 draw away at Watford but again it was events off the field
which over shadowed events on it. Let’s start with the bad and finish
with the good.
Before a ball was kicked dramatic events were happening in the Newcastle
dressing room. After being named among the substitutes, the name of
Charles N’Zogbia was chalked off and replaced by Paul Huntington. As
the game started the BBC Radio Newcastle commentators informed listeners
that N’Zogbia had apparently stormed out and refused to take his place
on the bench because he wasn’t happy that Matty Pattison had been picked
ahead of him. However, the Chronicle the next day ran a story quoting a
club insider; who said that N’Zogbia was caught texting on his mobile
phone whilst Nigel Pearson was giving his pre-match team talk and as a
result was then replaced as one of the substitutes. |

To make matters
worse whilst we all thought Obafemi Martins had been rested to give
Shola Amoebi some much needed match practice, it also emerged the next
day that Martins himself claimed to be injured and refused to play on
hearing he was going to be among the substitutes.
Both these players have let themselves, the fans and the club down.
Charles N’Zobia has struggled to recreate any of the excellent form he
showed last season and this little episode shows that his attitude
towards the club has hit rock bottom. Obafemi Martins goals have
probably kept us up this season but his inability to keep the ball, his
general lack of team play and his growing to drop his head when things
have gone wrong, also shows that he has a lot to learn about playing
football in the Premiership.
Sam Allardyce certainly has a big job on his hands, he will need to make
some quick judgements on which players he wants around him or not. Let’s
not forget there is the little matter of Michael Owen’s future. If the
players are lucky Allardyce will start with a clean slate for all of
them, so Martins and N’Zogbia may get a reprieve but the wool can’t be
pulled over the fans eyes, as we have seen the growing bad attitude on
and off the pitch from our so called professional footballers.
For the record the game was a dull end of season affair, which had
nothing riding on it. Kieron Dyer scored for us, which giving all the
bad behaviour today it was quite ironic that King Bad Boy himself should
pull his finger out and do something.
And finally for the good, as I promised above.
The Aussie Mags Match Day Room was to quote Geordie_442, standing room
only, with 11 people in there for this game. Fantastic effort by
everyone and despite the fact that half of us were more concerned about
some on-line football quiz in the second half, the match chatter was
still of top quality. The season may have finally ended but the
adventure doesn’t stop, as no doubt there will be plenty going on this
off season at St James’ Park.
We may have seen this
many times before but a new start means new hope.
Keep the faith everyone.
