  Match Report:

  Pieman's Leazes View

I was just saying the The_Goat before the match that I hope Defoe has a moo of a game coz he could quite easily use his pace to tear our defence apart.  Luckily he must have had a moo of a pre match warm up coz, despite being announced as a member of Spurs starting line up, he was a no show.  The first bit of xmas cheer.  The next bit o cheer was to follow less that 5 mins later.  Spurs pushed forward looking for that early goal, unfortunately for them they left a huge gap behind with only 2 defenders.  Their attack broke down and the ball was played forward quickly to Martins, who unselfishly knocked the ball on to Dyre.  Dyre ran forward, all the time being forced, by a defender, further and further out wide.  He realised he wasn't going to run at goal, so stopped just inside the box, took a moment to pick his spot and slotted the ball in at the far post.  A belting start.

Spurs hadn't learnt from their earlier mistake.  Again they pushed forward, again the attack broke down.  This time the ball went right to Milner, who legged it down the wing and, at the by line, did a short pass to Parker, who was just inside the box.  The lack of Spurs defenders round gave Parker time to wait till Martins got in the right place to head in the Toons second goal in 10 mins. Needless to say the fans went mental with delight!!!!!

It finally sunk to the Spurs players heads that if they push forward in numbers they would get hurt.  This time they slowly applied pressure.  The defence held for less than 10 minutes when a Danny Murphy shot smacked Taylor in the fizzog and found the back of the net.

This led to a very nervous 20 mins while Tottenham pushed and made it difficult for The Toon to make any headway, with Berbatov and Dawson both missing chances.

With less than 10 mins left of the half Erme got kicked up a height just outside the 18 yard box.  Robinson parried the shot which led to a goal mouth scramble.  Parker stuck a boot in and the ball was over the line. The whistle blew for half time shortly after and the half ended 3 – 1.

The second half was destined never to be as exciting as the first and that exactly how it turned out.  Neither team really going for it, not the The Toon had too.  The final, and loudest, xmas cheer came with Pav coming on as a substitute for Given.  He, like Given, didn't have a great deal to do in the final 6 mins.  The game ended at 3 – 1.

Have a great Xmas and a successful 07.
