Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder
said:
"They came to do a job, very defensive, they did not really come out to
play. It was up to us to break them down and I thought we had when
Scott Parker scored. Having seen it, it is marginal he is offside and it
could have gone our way on another day. If we take the lead they have to
come out and play and that makes it easier for us. The goal was a
classic counter attack. It was probably their only chance of the game,
they score from it and it is disappointing that in the final ten minutes
we don't get an equaliser because we pushed forward and made some good
opportunities."
Sorry, Mr Roeder, but you're talking utter crap with them comments.
Parker was clearly off side, Man City went for it just as much as the
Toon did, and us lot made very few opportunities. |

It's strange but the more players Roeder has available for selection the
worse they play.
What went wrong? It's easier to say what went right....erm...
Teams come to St James' with an easy plan: For the first 25 mins keep
their backs to the wall, tweak the formation slightly, have a go at our
defence, tweak the formation some more and then go for it. They know if
they can stop us from scoring in the first 45 mins then they guaranteed
themselves a chance, coz Roeder seems incapable of making any tactical
changes that will give the Toon all 3 points.
Today was one of them days. Maybe if Duff had not been so ball greedy
and just passed it to Nobby, who was standing in the oppositions with
loads space, in the first 15 mins we could have had the game. Alas it
was not to be. That was just about the only chance we had. With Dyer
virtually playing as a fifth midfield all game, Martin was left up front
on his own and when he did get the ball his touch let him down. Pearce
made an aggressive half time change, with Hamann replaced by Samaras.
Our midfield just seemed to find it a struggle to play against 3
midfielders and our defence was dragged all over the place when up
against 3 strikers. You could see the Man City goal coming as our
defence started to gradually fall apart every time City pushed forward.
Their wingers must have thought xmas had come early with the amount of
space Baba and Carr where leaving them. We made our changes and 3
minutes later Man City were in front, with Taylor and Onyewu both
falling over each other to get away from the ball. After that we had a
couple of half chances but by then it was too little to late.

P.S. I
hate to admit this, and I'm not happy about it, but in all my years
going to watch Newcastle this is the first time I've ever booed them
when the final whistle was blown. I want only the best for the Toon but
this display was, quite frankly, appalling.
