Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder said
“It is a case
that too often this year so far we have shot ourselves in the foot and
lost games we shouldn't have. We need to pick ourselves up off the floor
again and stride on forward.
"Undoubtedly we should have won because of the superiority we had in the
first half. But when you do not take your chances you always feel it may
come back to haunt you. I thought we were in control in the first half
and the second half was more even. I know Steven Taylor made a fantastic
goal-line clearance but we had chances at the other end.“ |

Match Report: |
|
| |
A
Yakubu
header from a Downing corner 5 minutes from time spoiled our
afternoon on Smogland. We were guilty of missing a host of
chances which could have seen us take all three points back to
Tyneside.
Glenn Roeder summed thinks us perfectly aferwards saying "Too
often we have shot ourselves in the foot and now we have to pick
ourselves up off the canvas, and quickly."
Sloppy finishing cost us the game. Our lack of goal scoring is now a real concern. It's worrying
that if we concede a goal we are going to struggle to get any points.
For once the defence can't be blamed for this defeat and they showed
some improvement, whether that was because Bramble was warming up the
bench I'm not sure.
Our excellent record down here has been blighted sadly, so
lets hope Roeder can get these players playing for him again or
we could be in serious trouble this season.
