- Kieron Dyer (hamstring) has recovered and is back in training but is
still some way off full fitness and won't be rushed.

The last thing I think most of want at the minute is
another midweek game. For the first time in a long while I’m not looking
forward to Newcastle United games anymore and I personally enjoyed the
10 days during the recent international break. The fear of another
defeat or balls up looms large in the back of my mind. I think about the
current plight of the club everyday and it really does depress me.
All this aside I’ll never give in, because this is my club, this is my
passion, this is my life and that is what separates the diehards from
the average fan. However, I swear to god I’m starting to sound like a
right old bugger “Well I’m remember when…”, “Back in the good old
days..”, etc but christ we only had it really good for a few years and
even then we still managed to balls up our shot at trophy glory.
I think we need to start to realise we aren’t a big club, we a club with
a big fanbase, because big clubs win trophies and that is something we
haven’t done for a whole generation. There is no devine right to be a
big club, you need to earn it by winning trophies. Look at Chelsea they
haven’t been a traditional big club, they haven’t had a massive
following for years on end but they got their bucket loads of Russian
rubles in and won regular trophies, making them a big club in England.
Glenn Roeder and his current team certainly aren’t inspiring us with
much confidence after a promising start last season. It seems he can no
longer get the players to play for him like he could last season. Too
many defensive mistakes have crept in and now the goals have dried up.
Oba Martins certainly doesn’t look a 10m striker and not the answer to
our prayers up front. He misses too many chances, granted we have been
spoilt by Alan Shearer but so far it just hasn’t been good enough.
Shola’s goals have been encouraging but he surely should only ever be a
3rd choice striker at this club, if we are to go places. The
defense is a joke at the minute. Steve Carr is a rubbish, has been, full
back at best but we have no other option at right back. The recent
plight of the centre-half’s is well documented but when we’ve only got
one, maybe two, players on your books with a long term future (Taylor &
Ramage) it’s a farce. Why we didn’t buy a centre-half and also got
Woodgate in on-loan, is a scandal really. At left-back we have Babayaro,
who can’t be arsed to play half the time and then we sign Olivier
Bernard, who I’m shocked has taken best part of 2 months to get match
fit.
Glenn Roeder may not be the main reason why we are in a mess these days
but after getting us into Europe last season, he’s made a right royal
balls up of this season so far, both on and off the field. Nigel Pearson
ffs? I wish I was excited by that appointed but I’m more fearful of a
relegation battle with these 2 muppets in charge.
Oh yeah Portsmouth at home in the Carling Cup, extra time, penalties,
defeat and the same old story no doubt.
Fingers crossed I'm wrong...
