My thoughts: |

Two games to go and the last one at home for what has been an unforgettable and ultimately predictable campaign. The usual case of false promises, lack of discipline, lack of ambition, poor tactics, shite away form, shite defending, wasted chances, over paid tossers and failed cup campaigns. The sooner the 2006/2007 season is archived to the history books to be forgotten, the better. I can’t imagine there will be a rush of people wanting to buy the end of season review DVD. (Have a look on nufc.com as they have listed some possible titles for the DVD and there are some funny ones!)
As manager of the football club Glenn Roeder ultimately has to carry the can for this season’s failings but however, like I’ve said a few times before, the players also should not be free from blame. Yes injuries have hampered our season yet again but when it’s mattered the players have proved to be bunch of unmotivated, so call professionals, who have struggled to beat sides that we should be beating. We are at a cross roads with this squad and we actually have a great chance to get rid of a lot of them and rebuild totally. Whether Freddie will give Roeder the chance to do so, or whether they both can do it with some degree of success is another matter and the question on all our lips.
What will the long suffering season ticket holders except from this last game? Well they will at least see two new things for this season and I’ve no doubt they will be used to gloss over what has happened recently. Michael Owen and (I’m guessing) the new home strip will both be paraded around St James’ Park with great razzmatazz and hope. Freddie will be sitting on his padded seat with his fingers crossed praying that Owen scores a goal, or goals, in the hope that it will convince a lot more fans to renew there season tickets because at the minute (other than loyalty) there isn’t much to renew for.
In all the doom and gloom that surrounds the club these days let us not forget that is a game of football for 3 points in the Premiership. Every position in the league is worth
£500,000 of prize money and the more money we have to spend this close season the better chance we have to get out of this mess.
See all you boys in the chat room!

- We haven't lost our final home league game for 16 years which was a 1-2 defeat to Hull City in 1991 and for the record Lee Clark scored our goal. I do remember running onto the pitch at the end of the game with everyone else from the Gallowgate End, as was the tradition in those days. |
