Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder:
"The players took out their disappointment from last week's defeat at Charlton on what is a very good Tottenham side. Three one did not do out first-half performance justice. People say there is nothing to play for but there are points and pride - and for our fans we must play this way for the rest of the season."

  Match Report:

I said in my match preview 'who knows with our beloved Newcastle United we could just as easily win or lose 3 nil depending on which team turns up on the day'.

No April fools today as the good Newcastle United turned up to beat Spurs 3v1 at St James' Park on Saturday with all three goals in a fantastic 1st half performance.

Lee Bowyer got us off to the best possible start with a goal after 65 seconds. Excellent work by Charles N'Zogbia down the left who crossed perfectly for an advancing Bowyer to force the ball home.

Robbie Keane levelled after 19 minutes with a well taken header from an Anton Lennon left wing cross but they weren't level for long as Shola Amoebi scored a brave goal after 25 minutes. Amoebi followed up on a Nobby Solano shot and put his body on the line to beat a diving Paul Robinson and Anthony Gardner to smack the ball into the back of the net.

Five minutes later Edgar Davids unnecessarily pushed Bowyer over in the box when the ball was going out of play to give away a penalty. Up stepped Alan Shearer who calmly sent Robsinson the wrong way by smashed the ball into the left hand side of the net.

Spurs had some chances with Keane hitting the crossbar just before half time and also  the outside of the post in the second but there best chance fell to Jermaine Jenas in the second half. An awful defensive header by Robbie Elliott let JJ in on goal who then rounded Shay Given to have an open goal but somehow he hit his left foot shot into the side netting much to the delight of the home fans. JJ had been booed all game and this was the icing on the cake of an awful return to the goldfish bowl.

Michael Dawson was sent off after 65 minutes after getting a second yellow card for holding back Shearer who was throw on goal. This effetely killed the game off as we played out a much needed win with relative ease.

A good three points then for the boys who now can hopefully take this form to the smog filled stadium next Sunday.

Like the last home game our main man at St James's Park was their to report on all the action so to read Pieman's Leazes View go here
