Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder:
"It is a little
disrespectful for people to say we cannot win without Shearer and Owen.
We put out a team we thought was good enough to beat Everton and they
went out and proved it. Nobby's second goal was out of this world but he
scored an even better one in training on Friday."

Match Report: |
|
| |
 |
Two 2nd half goals by Nobby Solano
kept Glenn Roeder's undefeated record as caretaker manager
intact.
Yet again Alan Shearer's calf injury kept him out of the
team which left Shola
Ameobi upfront alone with Emre
and Lee Bowyer supporting from midfield. Where Albert
Luque was is another story but
by the fact that 19 year old Matty
Pattison was on the bench ahead
him means the Spanish international has obviously failed to
impress the new management team in training so far.

We
started the first half with some good passing play and Emre was in
the thick of all our forward movements. Everton, as they have been
since their Xmas renaissance which has seen them go seven games
unbeaten, were solid at the back and played five in midfield meaning
it was different for us to break them down. For all our possession
no really clear cut chances were created and inevitably Everton came
into the game.
A
series of goalline clearances and an
excellent save by Shay Given from a
Arteta free kick kept us in the game in
the first half. Two of the clearances were spectacular, Emre on the
far post clearing a header from a corner and Peter
Ramage somehow managed to kick the ball
away from Kevin Kilbane's head as he
was about to score.
In the 2nd half we continued to show good form going
forward but this time Everton didn't come back at us so much. On 64
minutes Emre knocked the ball back to Charles
N'Zogbia who burst into the box beating the defender and
crossed the ball into the 6 yard box where Nobby
Solano was on hand to force the ball
home. 12 minutes later an individual piece of brilliance saw us go
2v0 up and seal the win. Solano got the
ball down the right flank and cut in side the full back and with the
outside of his right foot he curled the ball from outside the box
into the top left hand corner of the goal. Cue wild celebrations by
the players, fans and the bench, the TV cameras replaying Alan
Shearer thoroughly enjoying the goal. (Picture
of things to come one day!?!)
A
fantastic result as the mini revival continues under Glenn Roeder
and we now move up to 11th place 5
points behind 6 spot and a UEFA Cup place. If this continues we
might have a happy end to the season yet but keep your fingers
crossed as this is Newcastle United after all.
