Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder:
"We showed a lot of spirit and produced some quality passing. There was good movement and we had a fair amount of possession. I'm perhaps disappointed that in and around the area we didn't create enough clear-cut chances to test their goalkeeper. But we put on a really good show against the team that will be Premiership champions again this season. They are hot favourites for the Cup and deserve to be."

  Match Report:

A 4th minute goal from John Terry ended Alan Shearer's hopes of silverwear in a black & white after 10 years of trying.

Conceding such an early goal was always going to make life very hard for us to win this FA Cup tie and so it proved. We huffed and puffed and gave it a go in the second half but we never really looked like breaking down the Chelsea defence. Alan Shearer was effectively marked out the game and didn't get any half decent chances and none of our midfield runners were able to make an impact in the final third of the pitch.

Sadly a dissapointing night down the Kings Road but not all to unexpected really. We are a long way off being a top 5 side never mind a Premiership winning side.

But the fight must go on, there is still 8 very important Premiership games left so we need to pick up as many points as possible to finish the season with a bit of confidence and who knows a good run might give us an outside chance of Europe next season.
