Titus Bramble to be reunited with Steve Bruce at S********
Wigan's Titus Bramble is about to be reunited with Steve Bruce at S******** in a surprise £1million deal for the central defender.



Bramble, 28, is expected to sign a three-year deal this week after Bruce, the former Wigan manager, turned to him when moves for Schalke defender Heiko Westermann and West Ham's Matthew Upson broke down.

Despite becoming a figure of fun among S******** fans during his accident-prone five years with Newcastle, Bramble has been itching to work under Bruce again since he left Wigan for the Stadium of Light a year ago.

England goalkeeper David James, 40, has also been linked with a move to Wearside following Craig Gordon's broken arm but Bruce seems likely to put his faith in back-up goalkeeper Marton Fulop.

A source close to the England keeper said: "With Craig Gordon out until perhaps Christmas at the latest, S********'s need is probably short term, but David is looking for something a little bit more permanent."

S******** confirm Bramble capture

Titus Bramble today signed a three-year deal with S********.
The fee is not being disclosed, but Echo sources in the North West say the deal is a straight £1million.

Bramble is the second player to follow Black Cats manager Steve Bruce to S******** from the DW Stadium, following in the footsteps of Lee Cattermole.



Bruce said: ""Titus was absolutely outstanding for me at Wigan. He matured into a very, very good player so there was absolutely no hesitation when the chance came to bring him to S********.

"He was certainly the right player at the right price and this is a great deal for the football club."

Bramble came up through the youth ranks at hometown club Ipswich Town, forcing his way into the Tractor Boys side that finished fifth in the Premier League under George Burley in 2000-01.

Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson was impressed and made a £6m swoop for the defender in July 2002, with Bramble departing to Wigan five years later and delighting Bruce with his performances, finishing as the club's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year in 2008-00.

Bramble won ten England Under 21 caps.
