Post Match Comments:
Newcastle caretaker manager Chris Hughton said:
"It was very pleasing to get the three points, and especially the clean sheet, away from home.

We said to the players before the game that we expected a tough match, and that's what we got.  But to get a goal after just two minutes was a dream start - it gave the players and the fans a massive lift.

It was then a very good time to get the second goal and again, like Kevin's, it was a very good finish.

We had to defend a little bit more after the break but I felt were always in control.

I thought the effort and desire was tremendous.

We're going very well at the moment but we have to keep that going because all of the hard work is in front of us - but it's been a great start."

Palace manger Neil Warnock said:
"We lost two goals in the opening 20 minutes and the centre backs were very disappointing. They made up for it in the second half but I am disappointed really that we could not have given them a better game.

They did not have chances like we did but they finished those that came along.

We just could not score today, we should have had a penalty on the 50th minute which would have made it interesting. I would have liked to see how they would have reacted if we had kept it tight and seen how they reacted.

In all honesty in the first 30 minutes we did not play as a team and if you do not do that then anybody will beat you.  We did not function in every department which was disappointing.

I can't fault the lads performance in the second half. I was pleased with them but in the first we were not the best, I gave them a few words at half time but that is life.

It will be an open division, seven or eight teams are up there, but with the financial muscle they have it will help, but like we found out today, if you do not play as a team and fail to do the right things then anyone can beat you, no matter who you are."

Ryan Taylor scores his first goal for the Toon

  Match Report:
Newcastle United continued their impressive start to the Championship season with victory at Crystal Palace.

First-half strikes from midfielders Kevin Nolan and Ryan Taylor were enough to give the Magpies all three point at Selhurst Park.

On two minutes Jonas Gutierrez pushed in from the left and picked out Nolan's angled run into the box, and the Scouser slipped the ball through the legs of Palace keeper Darryl Flahavan.

Ryan Taylor doubled the advantage on 21 minutes when he blasted home a quality strike from outside the area, again Jonas teed up his man.

Shola Ameobi had a great chance to make it three for Newcastle, and
Palace went close through Alassane N'Diaye, whose header went narrowly wide, while Freddie Sears forced a fine save from keeper Steve Harper.

However, no more goals were forth coming, meaning the three points takes Newcastle to ten points and joint top of the Championship on goal difference with Middlesboro.
