Post Match Comments:
Barnsley boss Mark Robins:
"We got off to the worst possible start where we conceded early on. You just hoped that we didn't get too damaged by that early goal.

We got a point and it could have been better than that had we had a little bit more composure from Andy Gray.

He was outstanding today, probably his best game since I came here."

Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton said:
"Andy Carroll coped very well. He didn't give us anything we don't already know. We know he's a handful and on his day a very good player.

It's disappointing not to get the win when you're leading with just three minutes remaining.  We've been very strong during the latter stage of matches this season so when Marlon scored I thought we'd go on to win.

But credit to Barnsley, they threw everything at us and refused to give in, although I was disappointed that we conceded from a set-piece.

We wanted to get the win today for our fans and to have 7,000 there was fantastic. It's a shame that wasn't the case but we're still in a very good position and, on another day, we would have won.

I think when you're 2-1, up with so little of the game to go, it's very disappointing when you don't get the result."

  Match Report:
A late Bobby Hassell strike for Barnsley earned his side a draw and stopped Newcastle United recording their eight consecutive victory at Oakwell.

Newcastle started off in commanding fashion when on 6 minutes a flick on by Andy Carroll was met by Kevin Nolan who scored with a neat finish for his tenth goal of the season.

The rest of the half failed to generate any chances for either side and at the interval the league leaders were 1-0 up.

However, Barnsley roared out the traps after half-time and drew level on 52 minutes when Emil Hallfredson smashed in at the far post from Anderson Da Silva's centre.

Fabrice Pancrate and Carroll both had chances to restore Newcastle's lead before substitute Marlon Harewood latched onto another Carroll headed flick to finish well on 78 minutes.

Newcastle looked to be cruising to
yet another win in front of an impressive 7,000 travelling fans, but with 3 minutes left on the clock Barnsley full-back Hassell equalised.

An Adam Hammill corner found the unmarked Hassell, and the Barnsley player of the year for last season headed home much to the delight on the home crowd.

Despite the draw Newcastle still remain ten points clear of third place after Nottingham Forest recorded an impressive away victory at Swansea, while there is now an eight point gap to West Brom in second, who play Cardiff on Monday night.
