  Team News:

For Newcastle Shola Ameobi and Joey Barton are both still missing, while Zurab Khizanishvili completes his three game ban.

Jonas Gutierrez is fully recovered from his thigh problem that forced him off during the last game against Peterborough, but it is unclear whether new signing Fabrice Pancrate has received clearance in time to feature.

Preston will be without Barry Nicholson who has a leg injury, but Richard Chaplow and Stephen Elliott are both available for selection after shaking off minor niggles.

Midfielder Michael Tonge is in line for his debut after his recent move to Deepdale on loan from Stoke City.

Match Preview:

The Sky Monday Night Football road show travels to Lancashire as Preston North End host Newcastle United in the Coca-Cola Championship.

The form of both sides couldn’t be more different, 12th place Preston are without a win in three games and without a home win since beating Coventry City on 19 September.  In contrast, Newcastle is chasing a fourth successive victory and an 11th of the season.

Newcastle will be looking to capitalise on Preston’s home frailties and continue there own encouraging away form this term.  Despite back-to-back defeats away to Nottingham Forest and Scunthorpe last month, a win in the Magpies last away game at Sheffield United made it four away wins for the season, which is twice as many as all of last season.

Preston will be no pushovers however, their attack is be lead by the former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor.  The 27 year-old has 7 goals to his credit this season, 6 of which has come in the league.

Hopefully the international break will have given some vital rest to the Newcastle squad and they can come back revitalise and ready to push on into the busy Christmas period.

The Football League was founded in 1888 and Preston North End was one of the founder members.  In the League's first season (1888-89), North End were inaugural league champions, achieving the feat without losing a match.  On top of this, they completed the league and cup ‘Double’, winning the FA Cup without conceding a single goal, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 in the final.
